DISPLACING causes roadkill

We learned the term 'displace'. In the position of animals, I reflected on the social issue. The earth is not mankind's alone. This land, this environment is for every living thing. Animals are our neighbors. They are living things just like us. As we have a life so do they. As we consider our lives precious, so they want to cherish their lives. But the problem is they can't speak out to protect themselves. Then who'll stand on their sides and defend their interest? The reason why we have to consider animal's interest is almost all their misfortune results from us.

ROAD KILL!

I think it can be a kind of "displacing". But so far it has been considered only a problem of people. And most cases are happening in Africa. Africa is an underdeveloped area. But 'animal displacing' is occurring more in developing countries like Korea. Whereas people are displaced by war, animals are displaced by development. Especially road building is the most horrible factor threatening animals' lives. When animals move, they use their smelling sense to find their way. However, in building road we get rid of some parts of the mountains or hills and highways take the place of the empty parts. It make animals perplexed and they wonder which way to go and finally cross the highway. Even if they can sense how the highway is dangerous, there's no alternative for them to choose. And then they are killed by the road - road kill.

Is there any solution to prevent this terrible happening? As long as we continue destructing nature in the name of development, there's no escape from road kill. But it is possible to reduce the casualties by making a bridge or crosswalk linking separated hills so that animals can pass by. And it is not hard to practice if we have a will to care about our victims.

We call this road, whereas they call it home.
